Former Spice Girl, Emma Bunton, shocked viewers of ‘Dancing on Ice’ Sunday when she announced her engagement.
The pregnant singer, is a judge on the ice dancing show which also features former Olympic champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean as well as Robin Cousins. The show involves a celebrity being paired with a professional ice dancer and they compete each week, presenting a dance which is judged by the panel and then voted on by the viewing public. A pair is eliminated each week, in a dance off where one couple is eliminated by the panel of judges.
Emma Bunton, formerly known as Baby Spice, has been going out with Jade Jones, who used to be in a boy band called Damage and is now a chef, for twelve years. He asked her to marry him the Friday before the show, which was also her 35th birthday. She posted a picture on her Twitter site with the caption ‘Yahoooo I’m engaged’. Jade and Emma have already had a child, called Beau who is three years old and they announced that Beau’s had been wishing for a brother or sister and so he was very happy.
In the past Bunton had said that she was not keen to get married, explaining that she was in a very happy relationship with Jade Jones and that was all that was important. She said that they had talked about marriage in the past but it was not important to them at that time. She went on to say that they had a child together and for them that was the most wonderful thing and that having a son was very special for them both. She went on to explain that they were soul mates. They obviously changed their mind, with regards to their views about marriage, as the singer was obviously thrilled at the prospect of getting hitched to her long term partner.
It was after the second break in the ‘Dancing on Ice’ program that it was announced that she was engaged. She then held out her hand so that the camera could get a good close up of her ring. The host of the show and the other members of the judging panel were obviously genuinely excited for her. The camera zoomed in and viewing audiences as well as the studio audience could get a good look at the ring.
The pair had celebrated with David and Victoria Beckham the previous day, when they all went to dinner together at a restaurant in Essex. Victoria Beckham had then posted her congratulations on her Twitter page. Later another former Spice Girl, MelC also posted congratulations on Twitter.
The Spice Girls split up in the year 2000 after having nine number one singles and being an extremely popular band. Differences between certain band members and a desire from some of them to pursue solo careers was probably the reason for the split. The band have toured together since but have not released any singles or albums.
