If you are into realistic war movies, then you enjoy a genre that holds a special place in our hearts as people. The struggles that men face during wartime, and the sacrifice it takes for men to take up arms and to defend what they know and love is incomparable to anything, and movies that portray this struggle are no different. Here are some of my top choices for wartime movies and why I like them. Hopefully, you can all relate and enjoy them as much as I do.
1. Black Hawk Down
This is a movie that is packed with action, suspense, and heroism from beginning to end. Also, it is based on a true story, making it one that you will probably never forget! With the combined acting forces of Josh Hartnett and Ewan McGregor, Black Hawk Down is the incredible story of a downed black hawk helicopter, and of the military’s mission to rescue the survivors. With jaw-dropping action and intense realism, this movie delivers the story much like it probably happened.
2. Enemy at the Gates
Jude Law leads the cast in this astounding, inspiring story of the Russian Sniper, Vassili, in his battle against the invading German forces. The story takes place in Russia, as the Germans are advancing through the city. The spot is prime for snipers, and Vassili takes full advantage of this fact as he spends his days taking out German officers. All goes well, until a German special ops sniper is called in to handle Vassili and his team of ragged, trusted soldiers.
3. We were soldiers
Mel Gibson lights up the screen in this dark, intense epic about U.S. Forces and their fight in Vietnam. Mel Gibson leads a team of men into the Vietnam jungle on what is supposed to be a routine mission, but it ends up being one of the biggest battles of the war. This movie is marked by exceptional realism, and is a film that no history or war movie buff will likely forget any time soon.
